Assemble with The Avengers at Singapore show

Star Media Group’s Marvel Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. (Scientific Training and Tactical Intelligence Operative Network) exhibition opens in Singapore tomorrow.

The interactive showcase, which runs until March 5 at the Annex Hall of the Science Centre Singapore (SCS), features Marvel characters such as Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, the Hulk, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Ant Man, Vision and Falcon.

S.T.A.T.I.O.N. is an immersive experience that allows visitors to live within the Marvel cinematic universe and become part of the adventure by studying the science behind their favourite superheroes.

It features original sets, props and costumes, as well as interactive and special effects.

Visitors will have the opportunity to become recruits and gather in-depth knowledge on each of the characters to become part of a combat support network for The Avengers team.

They will also be able to catch a Marvel movie, which will be screened at 11am and 3pm daily for the duration of the exhibition. S.T.A.T.I.O.N. previously opened in New York, Paris, Las Vegas and Seoul.

Star Media Group owns 53% of Cityneon Holdings Ltd, which in turn owns Victory Hill Exhibitions Pte Ltd (VHE), the company that has the rights to exhibit characters from the Marvel and Avengers series.

VHE holds the rights to operate, market and promote the Marvel exhibits for display in museums and science centres or other similar venues.

Photos of schoolgirl chained to pole goes viral

PETALING JAYA: Photos of a girl in school uniform who appears to have been chained to a pole in an apartment block here have gone viral on social media.

The images circulating on Facebook since Wednesday evening show the girl’s right leg being chained to a pole while her school bag and water bottle are left lying on the ground beside her.

It was not immediately clear if she had been left there by a parent or guardian, and for how long.

Based on the photos, the incident appears to have occurred in the parking lot of a residential block, with one Facebook user claiming it was located somewhere in Sunway.

Netizens were quick to condemn the act, with many of them blaming the girl’s parents for resorting to such measures to punish their child.

However, there were those who defended the “tough love”, but disagreed with such public punishment.

Some also criticised fellow Facebook users for widely sharing the images of the girl, urging them to lodge a police report instead.

Upset man torches home, destroys five other houses in process

IPOH: Six houses in Taman Kuan Woh Yuen, Jalan Bendahara here perished in a fire this afternoon after a man allegedly set ablaze his rented home following an argument with his wife. Police are now looking for the suspect who has since fled the area. In the 5.30pm incident, Harian Metro reported that the houseowner, identified as Miss Lim, was alerted by the suspect's wife of his intention to torch the rented unit. "I was shocked when his wife said her husband wanted to burn down the house and asked me to come over immediately. "I told her to alert the police as I rushed over. Upon arrival, I saw the house already engulfed by fire," she told the Malay tabloid. It is learnt that nobody was injured in the incident and firemen prevented the flames from spreading further. The suspect's wife and her three children later went to the Pasir Puteh police station to lodge a police report. Ipoh police chief Assistant Commissioner Sum Chang Keong confirmed the incident.

Malaysia ranked 23rd by World Bank for ease of doing business

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia fell one notch to 23rd place in the World Bank’s Doing Business Report 2017 (DB 2017) released on Wednesday, with a score of 78.11 among the 190 economies surveyed from 78.18 last year.

Temple must submit papers

THE Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) has to step in and halt the extension works taking place at Batu Caves temple until the temple committee submits a proper application to the council.

State Tourism, Environment, Green Technology and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Elizabeth Wong said any renovation or extension work carried out at the site must be scrutinised closely as the entire Batu Caves environmental complex is classified as an environmentally sensitive area (ESA).
