GEORGE TOWN: A couple had the shock of their lives when their Uber driver was stopped and surrounded by airport limousine drivers at the Penang International Airport.
Debbie Wong, 32, claimed that two men with walkie-talkies demanded that she and her husband alight from the vehicle after they got into it at about 2pm outside the airport arrival hall.
“Our driver took out his camera to take pictures but they turned their backs and walked away,” she said Sunday.
The Uber driver then drove off only to find the route blocked by a limousine and several airport taxi drivers.
“Another group of men demanded that we step out of the vehicle. When we did not, they started banging the window and shouting at us.
“That’s when I phoned the airport police,” she said, adding that the commotion ended when police showed up.
Wong said the Uber driver then went into the police station at the airport but could not ascertain if a report was lodged.
“Our driver drove us home after he came out of the police station,” she said.
