KOTA KINABALU: A grandmother suffered burns on her face and right arm after she rushed into a burning room to rescue her eight-month-old grandson on Monday morning.
Waasi Laali, in her 50s, managed to bring Gaireil Lapiga to safety while other family members grabbed the other children and ran out of the house after it caught fire at about 8.30am at Kg. Buang Sayang, Lahad Datu.
The baby suffered minor burns on his hand. Both have been sent to the hospital for treatment.
Lahad Datu fire station chief Mohd Apandi Mahmood said they were still investigating the cause of fire that destroyed the wooden house.
“There were eight people in the house when the fire occurred and all of them are safe,” he said when contacted.The fire was brought under control at about 9.22am.
