Hari Sukan Negara kicks off in Putrajaya

PUTRAJAYA: Hari Sukan Negara 2016 kicked off in grand fashion on Saturday morning, with thousands of people gathering here in Putrajaya as early as 6am.
Malaysians from all walks of life, geared in sportswear,
thronged the area outside the Ministry of Finance where the national-level launch of the annual programme is held.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak arrived at 7.20am and addressed the crowd, before flagging off a cycling event.
“The idea of this annual programme is to get all Malaysians to be involved in sports, and turn into a way of life.
“Some people only take up sports today, or one day in a year. Let's refrain from that and make sports a part of our daily life,” said Najib.
He said this year's participation was over 7 million people nationwide, exceeding last year's record-breaking 5.1 million people.
Najib later cycled towards Precinct 3, flanked by Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic athletes.
About 22,500 sporting activities are being held on Saturday nationwide.
